Kira trotted towards the pages' lancing practice area on her copper haflinger mare, Starfire. She leaned forward, readied her weighted lance, and whispered a word. The warmare charged forward, but Kira missed the target and so was knocked out of the saddle. She got back on, grimacing at her failure, and tried again, this time only running, not charging. She missed again. Time and time again she tried, only to hear a small BOOM as the target swung around and hit her. At last she was tired out. The "boy" page let her mare go back to the starting place and stop, for they both were tired. Kira had stayed up late last night studying, and still she hadn't finished her work. A first-year page, she got lots of work and got bullied by a lot of older pages, such as Namon and Saras. She jumped down from the saddle and sent Starfire with a pat back to the stables for Stewart to handle. She set the weighted lance with the others and sat down by a tree, thinking. "Hey, Kyle, what are you doing?" Somebody said to her and sat down beside her. "Oh, hi, Ramon. Just thinking." The gruff white southerner smiled knowingly and said, "It's Lady Sarah," he said, naming the most recent lady visitor, "Isn't it? She's so beautiful its no wonder you like her. Kira's eyes flew open when she heard thios, and she said quickly, "No, Ramon, I don't like her. She's too rude and stuffy for me." Ramon raised an eyebrow, but then somebody called him and he got up to leave. "Don't forget about our trip to thr City today." The other first-year said as he left. I'll see if I can make a friend there. she thought to herself. Other then Ramon, I am friendless.

Alanna stood off to the side, leaning against a fence post. Her blue eyes watched the pages train intently, glittering in the light. Her blue gown flicked around in the breeze, as a boy stepped up to the line on his mount. Alanna frowned thoughtfully. Even from a distance she could tell something was different about the page. She tapped a slender finger to her lips, her eyes narrowed with thought. Watching the page, Alanna winced as he missed. She shrugged. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes.
After the training was complete, Alanna approached the boy as he sat beneath a tree. She smiled. "Greetings, young sir, may I inquire what your name is?" Her eyes danced as she studied the boys face. Yes, something was very different, though she could not put her finger on it.

Kira looked up to see Princess Alanna asking her something. She heard and replied, "I am Kyle, Princess." She flicked her eyes down so that the truth about her gender couldn't be identified. She hid the secret in her eyes and returned them to Alanna's.

Alanna studied Kyle's face carefully, then a slight smile touched her lips. "Well, young Kyle, I wish you luck in your training." Alanna looked back towards the other boys. Glancing back into the boys eyes, she shivered. This boy was so very different...."If you ever need to talk," she told him, "just notify one of my servants, and you may speak to me." Alanna smiled.

"Thank you, Princess," Kira answered in her fake boyish voice. She felt that somehow somebody knew her secret other than herself. But it was not the Princess. Somehow..Oh well.

The young page entered. Her eyes lowered to the ground, so none would notice their strange green brightness. The page's feirce red hair was cut short, and put into a small ponytail, as was the trend with boys. Her reins led to a spirited chestnut gelding, his neck arched his eyes showed a bit of white, but he stayed quiet under the page's gentle touch. Reaching for the gelding's stirrup she pulled herself up, sitting astride the gelding as if she had been born there. Settling her lance in her hand she rushed towards the target, with only a light touch of her heels. Hitting the edge of the target with her lance it went flying in one direction, her in another. Landing on her hands and knees she got up and dusted herself off, then ran to fetch her horse and the lance. Lining up agian she wondered for the bazillionith time since she had began her first year if she was really going to make it, disguising as a boy and entering the Realm of Knighthood. Mounting again she was off to the target.

Alanna smiled at Kyle. "Ofcourse, any time."
Her blue eyes flicked to the pages again, this time her gaze resting on a fire haired boy. She watched him thoughtfully as he faced the crude dummy with the lance in his hand. Alanna sighed heavily. She knew that there was something different about this boy as well. Frustrated that she coulndn't figure the two mysterious boys out, she leaned against the fence again, head resting on her hands.

Her eyes focused on the target, firm legs steering the gelding. Running towards it he stuck the lance through an arm on the dummy, but held on. As her horse ran onward she hung, hanging onto the lance. Dropping to the ground she dislodged the lance from the dummy and went to catch the gelding. Walking back her eyes strayed to the girl leaning on the fence, it was the Princess! Trying to avoid eye contact she looked up and saw the Princess looking at her. Dropping her gaze, embarrassed, she mounted quickly and rode to the line of praticing pages

Alanna grinned encouragingly at the boy. She knew what it was like to battle with a lance. When she had been younger, and did not have the burden of ruling the kingdom, she often practiced the fighting arts. Although she was still an expert swordswoman, she still knew the art of jousting as well.
Alanna's smile faded to a puzzled frown as the boy dropped his eyes. Why did these pages have trouble mantaining eye contact? Were they hiding something? Alanna's blue eyes glittered with curiousity of their strange habits.

Running towards the dummy her lance shot straight through it, coming out with it this time. Grinning, this time she forgot to look down as she passed the Princess

"Good job, Charley! You made it! Too bad I didn't." Kira said to the squire, (can we pretend to know each other well?), and grinned. Her sapphire eyes winked at him as he passed, and she got up. She bowed again her thanks to the Princess and left for the Pages' and Squires' Wing of the Castle.
